U Schönline

A collaboration with photographer Sherif Almasry to exhibit his photographs inside the U Schönleinstraße metro station in Berlin. The exhibition was presented within an existing glass cube at the centre of the station, creating a display that could be viewed from every side. The challenge was to design the space so that each angle revealed a different photograph while creating a strong environment that complemented Sheriff’s distinctive visual language.

Sheriff’s photography is hazy, colorful, and dreamlike, using techniques that blur and distort the image while creating intense pops of color. The set design was developed to amplify these qualities without competing with the photographs.

Studio Role: Set Design & Art Direction

For the installation, we used chicken wire mesh to introduce an industrial, raw quality that connected with the rough character of the station and Berlin’s urban identity. This was contrasted with black latex textiles, creating a darker and more tactile backdrop for the photographs.

To soften the rigid, industrial materials and introduce another layer of color and texture, anthurium flowers were integrated into the installation. Their sculptural forms and vibrant colors created a visual contrast with the mesh and latex while reinforcing the bold, atmospheric quality of Sherif’s work.
